     Safety and You

There are many types of safety: home, work, driving and personal. Merriam Webster defines

     safety as:

     1. the condition of being safe from undergoing or causing hurt, injury, or loss

     2. a device (as on a weapon or a machine) designed to prevent inadvertent or hazardous
         operation.

In the past, there have been articles regarding automobile safety, winter driving safety, caravan

safety and dealing with the heat. Now it is time to discuss another facet of safety- health.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. Colorectal cancer screening saves lives.

It is one of only a few cancers that can be prevented through screening among cancers that

affect both men and women. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related

deaths in the United States. The risk of developing colorectal cancer increases with advancing

age. More than 90 percent of cases occur in people aged 50 or older. One in twenty Americans

will be diagnosed with cancer of the rectum or colon in their lifetime. Over 60% of deaths from

colorectal cancer could have been prevented with screening.

Take the time to visit a gastroenterologist. Schedule a colonoscopy. It just may save your life.

Put your personal safety first. Colorectal Cancer is Preventable. Treatable. Beatable.
